Expanding Membership Across Sectors

In classrooms and labs across Oregon this year, students logged on without hesitation, teachers ran seamless digital lessons, and researchers shared massive datasets in seconds. Behind these everyday moments is our growing Link Oregon community. In 2025, more than 204,000 additional students, educators, researchers, and community members gained access to secure, high-performance connectivity through Link Oregon – and the momentum is only getting started.

Strengthening Oregon’s Education and Research Landscape

Our newest K-12 members—MESD, CESD, and NWRESD—collectively serve more than 200,000 students across 19 school districts, including urban and rural communities. “Link Oregon is quite literally the connective bridge ensuring that student populations and the administrators who serve them have access to reliable, state-of-the-art connectivity that fosters rapid collaborative learning,” said Stuart Long, chief information officer of the Cascade Technology Alliance, a collaboration of technology teams from Northwest Regional and Multnomah ESDs.

George Fox University, Oregon’s largest private university with over 4,300 students, joins our higher education sector, expanding our support for smaller higher ed institutions advancing academic excellence.

The USGS FRESC, based on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis, uses Link Oregon to connect its laboratories and offices located on the Oregon State University’s main campus.

A Network Built for Resilience and Performance

Link Oregon’s statewide network spans more than 2,500 route miles of dark fiber and over 50 access locations. Designed for the demands of modern education and research, our wide-area network (WAN) delivers:

  • High-throughput internet transit
  • DDoS mitigation
  • Fast, reliable access to public internet and major cloud platforms

Every network node is built with at least two layers of redundancy—across fiber, equipment, and power—supporting service continuity even during outages. Our architecture includes FEMA zone resiliency and disaster recovery sites on both sides of the Cascades.

Collaboration Beyond Connectivity

Our non-profit business model allows for a strong community-centered approach and value-focused engagements with all our member institutions. Our network architects and engineers represent a deep bench of domain expertise that our members rely on for trusted technical counsel. For our K-12 members, we’ve also launched a community of practice that brings together IT leaders to share insights, plan collaboratively, and stay ahead of emerging technology trends in the sector.

Looking Ahead

We are grateful to our members – both new and longstanding – who trust us with their mission-critical connectivity. We’re energized by the momentum of 2025 and the growing community of institutions who have chosen our resilient fiber optic network.
